THE TEAM

Why trek with The 108 Peaks?

Our treks are designed to go beyond the summit, focusing on people, culture and a respectful way of experiencing the Himalayas.

Small Groups

We work with small groups of up to twelve people to ensure safety, personal attention and a deeper connection with the mountains. A smaller group allows a natural pace, less impact on the environment and a more meaningful trekking experience.

Cultural Immersion

We create moments to live the Himalayas like locals do. Sharing chai and chapati, visiting traditional mud houses, spending time in villages and experiencing daily mountain life beyond the trekking trail.

Fair Pay & Respect

Everyone involved in our treks receives fair and respectful wages. Guides, cooks, mule handlers and support teams are treated with dignity, supporting ethical tourism and sustainable livelihoods in Himalayan communities.

Professional Guides

Our guides combine strong technical knowledge with deep local experience and genuine care for people and mountains. You are supported at every step, with safety, acclimatization and the journey always coming first.

LOCATION

Uttarakhand, Devhoomi

In Uttarakhand, in the Indian Himalayas, the mountains are lived as a sacred space. Known as Devbhoomi, the Land of the Gods, this region is where the river Ganges is born, ancient temples stand in remote locations, and daily life remains closely tied to nature and tradition. Walking through these valleys means entering a quieter, less-travelled part of India, where silence, altitude and landscape shape the experience.

THE MEADOWS

Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek

The Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek is one of the most breathtaking and culturally rich treks in the Indian Himalayas. Over four days, we journey through dense oak and rhododendron forests, charming mountain villages, and two of the largest high-altitude meadows in Asia: Ali Bugyal and Bedni Bugyal, perched at around 3,500–3,820 meters. These vast green pastures open up to unforgettable 360º views of Himalayan giants such as Mt. Trishul (7,120 m) and Nanda Ghunti (6,309 m).

Beyond their beauty, these meadows hold deep cultural and spiritual significance. Bedni Bugyal is home to the sacred Bedni Kund, a high-altitude lake visited for centuries during the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, one of Uttarakhand’s most important pilgrimages. Walking here means stepping into living Himalayan history, where nature, spirituality, and tradition merge seamlessly.

During the trek, we stay in tents or simple local homestays, enjoy freshly cooked meals, and follow the natural rhythm of mountain life. There is no phone network, no Wi-Fi, no distractions, only the sound of the wind crossing the meadows and the silence of the mountains. This simplicity becomes one of the most meaningful parts of the journey: a chance to disconnect from everything and reconnect with yourself, the group, and the raw essence of the Himalayas.

THE TREK

Weight / equipment

During the trek, most of the equipment will be transported by mules: camping tents, sleeping bags, cooking utensils, food, and shared gear.
Participants may also choose to hand over one personal bag (clothing, toiletries, etc.) to be carried by the mules from one campsite to the next. This optional service is available at an additional cost, to be paid locally.
As a result, you will only need to walk with a small daypack containing what you need for the day: some fruit or nuts, a rain jacket, a warm layer… and most importantly, your enthusiasm. This logistics setup allows us to hike lighter and fully enjoy the journey.

FAQs

The most popular seasons for the Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek are May–June and September–October, when the weather is usually stable and the mountain views are at their clearest.
However, November and early December offer a very special experience before the heavy winter snow arrives. During this season, the trails are much less crowded, creating the perfect atmosphere to enjoy the silence, calmness, and authenticity of the Indian Himalaya in a more intimate way.

The Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek is considered an easy to moderate Himalayan trek, making it accessible for people with a normal level of fitness and no previous trekking experience in high mountains.
The trek lasts 4 days and follows well-defined trails through forests, villages, and alpine meadows, with gradual altitude gain. Even though the route is accessible, it still takes place in a remote Himalayan environment, so a positive attitude and basic physical preparation are important.
Before the trip, we will guide you with recommendations and preparation advice to help you feel comfortable and confident during the trek.

Yes. The Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek is a great option for people who want to experience their first Himalayan trek. No previous trekking experience is required, although having a basic level of fitness and enjoying walking in nature will help you enjoy the journey even more.
The route is designed to be accessible, with enough time to adapt to the altitude and rhythm of the mountains. Throughout the trip, you will be accompanied and supported by our team to make the experience safe, comfortable, and enjoyable.

Yes, you can! We can usually accommodate most common food intolerances and preferences. However, if you have a severe allergy, especially to something difficult to avoid in India, like gluten, please let us know in advance.
We’ll talk it through together and see if the local conditions and food options can meet your needs safely. Your wellbeing is our priority, and we want to make sure you can enjoy the experience with peace of mind.

This experience is designed for adults and teenagers who are comfortable with trekking, altitude, and simple living conditions. If you’re considering coming with a child, please contact us so we can assess together whether the route and pace are suitable.

You can stay connected throughout most of the trip if you get a local SIM card upon arrival in India. In Rishikesh, we will guide you on where to buy one so you have mobile data for the journey.
However, during 2–3 days of the trek in the remote Himalayan mountains, there will be no phone signal or internet access at all. This is the most isolated part of the route, offering a rare opportunity to fully disconnect and immerse yourself in nature.
Outside of those trekking days, you will have normal connectivity again.

Altitude affects everyone differently, but on the Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek most people feel completely fine at this height. The itinerary is designed with a gradual ascent, which helps the body adapt naturally to the altitude.
While it is possible to notice mild symptoms in some cases, the majority of trekkers do not experience altitude sickness on this route. Walking at a steady pace, staying hydrated, and listening to your body is usually more than enough to feel comfortable throughout the journey.
Our team will also be there to support you at every step, ensuring a safe and relaxed experience in the mountains.

No problem, it can happen. Your safety always comes first. If you feel unwell or unable to continue, we’ll stop, evaluate the situation and decide the safest plan together. Depending on where we are, this may mean resting, descending to a lower point or adjusting the itinerary. You’ll never be left alone, and we’ll prioritize your well-being at every moment.

You’ll enjoy fresh, homemade meals, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian depending on your preferences. Typical Himalayan dishes include rice, lentils, vegetable curry, chapati, eggs, pasta, porridge, and seasonal vegetables. We ensure meals are nutritious and safe for trekking.

Absolutely. Many solo travellers choose this trek. You’ll be walking as part of a guided group, so you’ll never actually be alone, and it’s a wonderful way to meet like-minded people.

Yes, you will be in a supportive environment from the moment you arrive. Many women trek with us, and our team is trained to ensure respectful, safe, and comfortable dynamics. You will never be left alone on the trail unless you request it, and every member of our staff understands the importance of creating a trustworthy and caring atmosphere.

We believe in responsible and fair tourism.
When you join this trek, your payment supports not only your experience, but also the people who make it possible.
A large part of the cost goes directly to the local team: guides, porters, cooks, drivers, and the families who host us in their homestays. We pay fair salaries, never the low or exploitative rates that unfortunately still exist in some trekking circuits. When the team is valued, respected, and well paid, they work with joy, safety, and dignity. And this creates a better experience for everyone.
Your contribution also covers high-quality food during the trek, camping equipment, logistics, transportation, and all the local permits. Nothing is rushed, nothing is cut down to lower the price. We prefer to maintain high standards and ensure that the impact of our presence in the Himalayas is positive for the communities who live here.
By choosing this trek, you’re supporting local livelihoods and helping preserve a sustainable way of exploring the mountains, with respect, fairness, and heart.

We work exclusively with local families, buy ingredients from village farmers, stay in homestays, and hire staff from the region. By trekking with us, you help strengthen the economy of remote Himalayan villages while keeping the cultural traditions alive.
